Acer Introduces Aspire One Mini-Notebook
Acer’s best kept secret has been unveiled today after the company officially announced the release of Acer One, a new generation of mini-notebooks with Intel Atom processor. During a press conference in Taipei, Gianfranco Lanci, Acer’s President, confirmed that Acer Aspire One will be released next July 10th as a low cost computer that retakes an old marketing concept being called a notebook rather than laptop due to its small size. With an ultra-slim and small design, Acer One will come with either Windows XP or Linux Operating systems to choose from. Some people might be fearing about XP after Microsoft announced a deadline for this OS, nonetheless there are OEM agreements to keep Windows XP support and distribution for low-profiles computers in an effort to offer new technologies to people with tight budgets.
Acer One will undoubtedly satisfy mobile needs, but beyond its portability, it is expected those people who do not want to upgrade their actual laptops to Vista turn their eyes toward the new Acer’s notebook. Acer One comes with a 89% full-sized keyboard and 512MB on-board DDR2 533-MHz SDRAM, enough memory to run Microsoft’s Vista Basic, although Acer is clearly aiming this new effort to a market that otherwise will not found Windows XP installed on any new computer.
Despite its size (9.8 x 6.7 x 1.14 inches), Acer One includes 5-in-one card reader and three USB ports, enough to plug additional devices and flash memory USB sticks and hard disks. Average Li-ion battery power life ranges up to three hours depending on the energy settings, which is the average power time of most Acer Aspire laptops with standard batteries.
Acer One Mini-Notebook weighs only 2.17 pounds, this is less than one kilogram, and is built with the Intel Centrino Atom Single Core N270 processor and 512MB onboard DDR2 533-MHz SDRAM. You can have a better idea of this notebook’s size by comparing a traditional laptop display (14-15 inches display) with Acer One’s 8.9 inches LCD screen with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution.
Like most computers, the new Acer includes slots to connect microphone, Ethernet, VGA, speakers or headphone devices, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g card, storage support for 80GB Hard Drive or 4GB/8GB NAND Flash removable memory, and it will be available in different fashionable colors with prices starting at $379 USD
Intel’s UK general manager, Graham Palmer considers that “These devices are more for consuming content than creating it,” and this affirmation takes back to the average user who only needs a computer to store information, surf the web, play multimedia, download files and read emails.
Besides Windows XP and Linux Basic, Acer One is expected to be available with either 3G or WiMax by the last quarter 2008. After Acer’s announcement, the news have noted a similarity between Acer One and Asus Eee PC 900, a budget ultra-portable a 8.9 inches-screen computer released past April.
Even though, Acer is one of the worldwide’s computing leaders guaranteeing net sales that would probably surpass those of its notebook’s competitor. ASUSTeK Computer Inc., is a Taiwan-based computing company founded in 1989, but listed on both the Taiwan and London Stock Exchanges, a Acer One’s rival that should not be ignored.Sheep Dog divx The Lost Boys hd
