Palm Treo 800wSprint has released new Palm Treo 800w packed with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system. Palm was for long time the king of Personal Digital Assistants that eventually began to be replaced by powerful handheld devices running with operating systems other than Palm OS, forcing the company to develop new devices from which Palm Treo has been challenging with other contenders in the market.  Palm Treo 800w is still considered a PDA with phone capabilities by purists who have tried most of the PalmPilot handheld devices, nonetheless Palm Treo has conquered a place in the smartphone niche rivaling with Blackberry smartphones and similar devices. Despite Palm launched a prototype of the new Treo 800w a few months ago, its tentative features were not confirmed until its official release this week. Effectively, Palm Treo 800w supports EV-DO Rev.0. H, as it was expected, and enjoys Sprint’s Mobile Broadband Network and Wi-Fi 802.11 B/G for high-speed GPS and data transfer.

Treo 800w is powered by a Qualcomm 400 Mhz processor, comes with 128MB program memory, 256MB user memory, and a Micro SDHC memory card slot supporting up to 8MB memory expansion. The new Palm’s display has a 320×320 pixels resolution touch screen and a 2-mega pixel camera.

Like previous Treo models, the new PDA has a built-in QWERTY keyboard, but also includes one-touch buttons to access commonly used features, and Palm’s classic five-navigation buttons. Windows Mobile on board provides users with Microsoft Exchange Server, Professional Developer Program, and tools to deploy OSGI and GUI based applications based on Titan platform, a Java Sun JavaTM Wireless Toolkit provided by Sprint.

Palm Treo 800w's Close-UpSprint revealed through its press release that “The Treo 800w is Palm’s most business-friendly phone yet. IT departments can simplify infrastructure and lower costs with a direct connection to Microsoft Exchange Server, giving users up-to-date email, contacts, calendars and access to other productivity applications.” Even though, we advise you to check with your local Sprint provider the GPS coverage, and data services that are provided at additional cost. EV-DO speed can also vary depending on both application design and network capacity.  Palm Treo 800w is available at most Sprint Stores at $249.99 with a two-year contract after rebates and discounts, otherwise it’s available online either at Sprint or Palm website stores or B2B sales organizations. However, Treo 800w is not exclusively for business persons and any American consumer can obtain it. Subscribing to a pricing plan unlocks Treo full capabilities and plans start at $69.99 a month including 450 voice minutes and unlimited data, although individual talk plans can be enhanced with $30 per month to receive the Pro-Pack to enable Treo’s data capabilities. Other monthly plans range between $129.99 for the familiar plan, and $99.99 for the Simply Everything plan that comes with unlimited nationwide services.

Palm Treo 800w offers also instant messaging that supports MSN, Yahoo, AOL, and AIM Messengers, as well as
voice, video and multimedia capabilities, as well as entertainment services provided by the carrier including Sprint TV with both live broadcast or video-on-demand, and Pocket Express, a service that delivers to Treo updated Internet content on news, weather, sports, money advice and movie reviews.Rise of the Gargoyles film
