Samsung OMNIAWith the New iPhone 3G rolled out to the market and HTC Touch Diamond closely following its steps, Samsung could not wait for longer and announced its new Samsung SGH-i900 OMNIA, which “i” in its name is not the only similitude this handheld has with the popular Apple’s iPhone. Not only OMNIA resembles an iPhone, but is only 12.5mm-thick with other design characteristics that make bring the iPhone to mind. Even though, Samsung believes there is not point of comparison. Geesung Choi, President of Samsung Telecommunication Business in Seoul, Korea, said, “I am very excited to introduce Samsung OMNIA, a mobile device that truly delivers the best possible features for today’s busy, connected consumer. Samsung OMNIA demonstrates our vision for the Samsung mobile business, which is to provide premium phones for users who desire functionality, style, usability and entertainment in one innovative device. The OMNIA mobile range will help users to be at the forefront of work and play and at the same time, to stay connected anytime, anywhere.”

Samsung SGH-i900 OMNIA has a sleek stylish design with a platinum look finishing and powerful features thanks to Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, an operating system that obviously takes advantage over iPhone native OS. When it comes to screen, the OMNIA has a Samsung’s patented TouchWiz 3.2-inch screen that provides a data entry interface similar to other touchscreen handhelds available on the market, but supporting an uncommon WQVGA 240 x 400 pixel resolution with integrated accelerometer for automatic landscape and portrait screen rotation.

The i900 OMNIA has been already released in the Asian markets and it’s expected to be available in Europe sometime in the next weeks. There are rumors about Germany being the first country in which Samsung SGH-i900 OMNIA will debut, as it is possible that AT&T picks up the exclusive for its subscribers, although this is rumor is not yet confirmed.

OMNIA is a word that means “wish” in Arabic and “everything” in Latin, this makes sense when we consider that Samsung SGH-i900 is built with the goal to bring the PC environment to mobile in mind. Although it boost great performance with multimedia services, OMNIA is also a full-featured business tool with excellent performance.

OMNIA's GPS ScreenSome of the features that you can find in this new handheld include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UTMS with HSDPA support, not to be confused with HSUPA that is not available at this time. The OMNIA also has a built-in 5 mega pixel camera with geo-tagging and face-detection, FM radio, Divx certification, and a microSDHC for up to 16GB memory storage in addition to its 8 or 16 GB onboard capacity options.

Like other handheld devices running Windows Mobile, the Samsung SGH-i900 OMNIA are packed with Microsoft Office that makes possible work with Excel, Word and PowerPoint applications and send or receive emails using Outlook. Contrary to iPhone, Windows Mobile has countless applications compatible with laptops and PCs, besides its long-life detachable battery for long hours of productivity or entertainment.
