Zonbu Notebook: It’s Green and It’s Cheap

I’m only writing about this middle-of-the-road laptop because it’s cheap at $280 and has a cool name. Say it with me, Zonbu, Zonbu - sounds like a Zombie on vacation in Africa, doesn’t it?

Zombu

The deal is this. The Zonbu Notebook, made by the Zonbu company (can’t get enough of that name), is an eco-friendly addition to the mid-range laptops to be offered in early 2008. The Zonbu Notebook has its own OS, aptly named Zonbu OS, which has received recognition by the Green Electronics Council as an energy efficient system.

If you’re in the market for an inexpensive alternative to the Mac and PC wars and have a curiosity for technological change, the Zonbu Notebook PC can be yours for $280. Exerex, the company behind Zombu, charges a $15/month subscription fee that is to be used towards maintenance and support. If you want to skip the contract and walk away on your own, get it for $480.

The Zonbu Notebook has a 15.4″ display, 512MB RAM, 3 USB 2.0 ports, optical drive, 60GB hard drive space and an environmentally friendly, low-power 1.5GHz Via C7-M processor.
