GP2x Personal Entertainment Player

This is the GP2X personal entertainment player, not exactly as catchy a name as PSP or DS but that hasnt stopped the manufacturers borowing heavily from all that is great about those two great machines.

At its core the GP2x is trying to bridge the gap between the Nintendo DS (a great touch screen gaming machine) and the PSP (a more adult device aimed at older gamers, and people who want to carry their media with them on the move).

The GP2X is primerily a gaming machine featuring 5 built in games, and 19 more on a CD, whats more you can download and play extra games using the in built SD slot in the rear of the device, controls are split between the standard D-pad and the touch screen stylus.

Multimedia is the GP2X’s strength with its large 3.5″ LCD screen, which can output upto 30fps, and supports video playback in Mpeg4, Xvix, Avi and Divx. The GP2x isnt finished there though, allowing users to read Ebooks and browse their photo collections all whilst listening to their favourite music tracks, whilst an add on cradle allows you to connect various third party USB gaming controllers, hard drives/memory sticks and even offers the ability to output your gaming/videos etc to the big screen.

Overall I dont think Sony or Nintendo have too much to worry about in the gaming stakes as although the games look fun, they lack the punch of irst party titles but if the price is right the GP2X can really hold its on in the multimedia stakes and could become a strong competitor for personal DVD players etc.
