Japan Make Water Powered Car?

2a.jpg

With the current energy crisis looming large over the world’s economy the timing couldn’t have been better to launch a car that runs purely on water.

A Japanese company by the name of Genepax has being showing off a prototype car that runs completely on water, they have devised a water energy system which provides power by breaking down water into its component parts (hydrogen and oxygen) using  a new technology called MEA (membrane electrode assembly).

Genepax claim their car can run at a speed of 80Kmh for around an hour on just one litre of water, and better still it doesn’t have to be special water, it can be from a river or the remnants of your last cup of tea and if you run out, all you need is another bottle of water and you’re up and running again.

Details are a little sketchy on the Genepax car, although there is a video floating around on youtube from the Reuters news agency. Prices start at around ¥2,000,000 (US$18,522), but are expected to fall massively to ¥500,000 (US$4600) if they can get the car into mass production.

And the source of energy is … ? You can’t just break H from H2O without energy. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exothermic. Reuters! For crying out loud! Has journalism fallen so low? Or is Reuters doing a pump and dump stock scam here? Maybe that is not real Reuters. Either way, it is a guaranteed scam.

Does anyone really believe that it takes higher gas prices to motivate research and development into alternative fuel sources?
